Sustainable House Day is an event from Renew that provides the opportunity to explore some of Australia’s most inspiring homes, and learn from the people who designed them, built them, and live in them.
Following a day of open-home tours around the country on Sunday 4 May 2025, a month of webinars offer a deep dive into a range of sustainability topics. Australia's best architects, designers, tradespeople and experts will offer guidance, and homeowners will offer first hand experience. If you're considering a sustainable build or renovation, this series is for you, with lots of time for Q&A.

Running an all-electric home with solar, a battery and even an electric vehicle, means taking into account how and when to use your energy, and thinking about energy tariffs to maximise efficiency and savings on your energy bills.
Featuring
Bryce Gaton, EV Choice Consulting
Bryce Gaton has been working, writing and presenting on the EV sector since 2008. His current roles involve writing for Australia’s premier EV news site –TheDriven.io, running the EV Transition support consultancy EV Choice and providing EV build safety training to a number of Australian university FSAE race teams.
In his spare time Bryce writes on EV topics for Renew magazine, as well as regularly presenting on EV issues and opportunities at conferences, public EV information forums and events. He is also the writer behind the EV car and light commercial vehicle Fact Sheets and webpage found on the AEVA (Australian Electric Vehicle Association) national website.
Andrew Reddaway, Renew
Andrew Reddaway is an energy analyst who has been involved with Renew for 10 years, helping households with independent energy advice. He has also worked for the Australian Energy Market Operator, the Australian Energy Foundation and Enhar. He is trained in solar installation and is a certified PassivHaus designer.
Valentina García, Amber Electric
Valentina is passionate about sustainability and taking action to address climate change. Valentina is the Senior Project Manager at Amber, a tech start up with the mission to shift Australia to 1000% renewable energy. She is currently leading the implementation of the EV trial - partially funded by ARENA, the project focuses on the development of a software solution to facilitate BEV smart charging and V2G bi-directional charging for 1,000 residential customers across Australia, including the installation of 100 smart chargers and 50 V2G chargers into participants’ homes. She has also been involved in a number of projects rolling out solar and battery systems to Australian households. Valentina has degrees in Chemical Engineering, Business and Project Management.

Helen Oakey, Renew
Helen Oakey is the CEO at Renew and has worked in sustainability, climate advocacy and community engagement for over two decades. As a Greens climate policy advisor in the ACT Parliament, Helen saw the Territory set its 100% renewable energy target and 40% by 2020 emission reduction targets. As Executive Director of the ACT 's peak environment organisation instigated community engagement projects to help Canberra households to get off gas and led an advocacy campaign for the ACT to go gas free, which the ACT Government committed to in 2022. Helen has fully electrified two of her own homes since 2016 - a 3BR cottage in the ACT and a 2BR townhouse in Eltham.
